Fasano Hotels : Masseria Salamina Hotel - Exterior

The Masseria Salamina Fasano Hotel is the place to stay in a Castle, close to the Sea complete with stunning background and a huge swimming pool.

Spend time with the locals at this hotel who will show you how to milk a goat, cook some local Italian dishes and stay in a stunning Italian country retreat.

It is only 7 km from the sea and it is the ideal place to live a vacation in the countryside, made of nature, genuine foods and old-time charm. It was erected on an earlier building, is a 17th-century fortified farmhouse.

Masseria Salamina it is the name that the farm has always had, at least since 1600, when Joseph Salamina provided for plants in more than 494 acres (200 hectares) the actual olive trees, which today are about 400 years old. In the following centuries there were some changes in order to conform the imposing structure to the agrarian necessities of the time, without modifying appearance. There is a church presenting the form of Latin cross from which it sticks out the masonry of the wings sides. Probably the church was restructured in the 1792 when it was enlarged on an earlier cult-building.Today, in the different wings of the masseria, there are three different kinds of lodgings, each one with a own architecture style in according to the original destination of the building.

Rooms at Masseria Salamina Fasano:

In different wings of the Masseria there are 20 lodgings of three different types, each one with a own architecture style in according to the original destination of the building:

The farm House suites are spacious and comfortable of approximately 50 m², composed of a double room, a living room with single bed, wide bath with bathtub and kitchen. They are located in the south-east wing, of more recent construction (end ’800 beginning of ’900) but always adjacent to the Masseria, 4 of them are on the first floor, with a wonderful view: you can see the blue sea or the green landscape outside. The rooms are  all with their own space outdoor

Reviews of Masseria Salamina Fasano:

10.0 Fairytale hotel
For the first time, I feel compelled to write a review having read mixed stories on this site as the Masseria Salamina is one of the most special places I have ever visited. I’ve stayed here twice and the calm tranquility found here is better than any spa! I’ve travelled in many different countries and no accommodation have I been so sorry to leave and so sure I will return to again.
The “farmhouse” is by UK definitions a small castle! The pool’s fantastic, the people sincere and friendly and the food incredible value. There’s plenty variety in the meals but as an agriturismo they are only permitted to cook local dishes using local ingredients and as this is one of the poorest regions of Italy some of these dishes are a little creative and unusual by British standards! It can be a bit hit and miss but overall, we had tastier and better meals here than at a 200Euro per head restaurant up the coast and dinner is just 30Euros for 4 courses though you will feel full after just 2! (If the Oct ’09 review tells you anything it’s that you should check the prices of going direct before booking through an agency!)
As the name agriturismo suggests, this is a working farm and family home so it seems unfair to judge it by the standards of a modern 5* hotel. I’d agree with other reviews that if you are looking for minibars, room service and an abundance of chrome and glass then this probably isn’t for you! But then you’d know that from looking at their website for 2 minutes! Some rooms may only have 1 window but then you are staying in what is essentially a 600 year old converted castle with vaulted ceilings and walls about 12 inches thick! We stayed in one of these basic rooms and found them utterly charming and perfectly adequate, so can’t comment on problems with air conditioning units or temperature.
As a seasoned traveller, I would describe Puglia as a beautiful and authentic part of Italy, perhaps a little rough and ready by British tourist standards, but a favoured destination for Northern Italians and definitely worthy of exploration. This hotel is beautifully elegant and yet pared back all at the same time and it’s perfectly located for visiting the many local heritage sites. If you like character properties and simple pleasures, peace and quiet and to really experience what a place and the people living there are all about, then Masseria Salamina is for you. Just don’t tell too many people: I want it just as serene on my next visit!

10.0 Paradise on only Earth!
I was suggested this masseria by a friend who told me it was a great place to enjoy a vacation. He was right I enjoyed my stay at masseria Salamina as never in earlier vacations.
The owners are very nice people who know how to make you feel at home and their presence is very discreet leaving all the privacy you might need.
If you have kids this definitely is a great place for all the family: the sea is just couple of minutes away and if you just don’t want to move there is a wonderful salted water pool overlooking the sea.
To have dinner in the masseria’s patio is a balm for the spirit and the taste, the cook will make you discover tastes you never imagined; I also appreciated that all you’ll eat is made with local products and are organic.
What else to say, I just will go back to Salamina and suggest everybody to do give it try: it’s worth!

9.0 Warm nice place
The place is very nice and the owner is a very kind person, always available for any kind of problem.
The room are comfortable and the location is perfect. The food was not always the best but generally speaking we had a good time.
The bar works well although not all night. The swimming pool is good enough to enjoy in summer time. There is large land devoted to old olive trees. they are terrific! a very nice view over the hill! The place is not far from brindisi and bari airport and the sea side is easy to reach. there are several wonderful town close by like, ostuni, alberobello, martina franca.
I strongly suggest to spend a holiday!!

8.0 Mediocre Rooms, Moody Head Waiter… but Excellent Pool
My husband and I stayed 2 nights at the Masseria Salamina a few weeks ago at the end of our cycling holiday in Puglia. We’d heard lots about the pool and believe me, when we were pushing up those hills on our 7-day cycling trip, the only thought that kept me going was the thought that I was cycling towards that pool!

Seeing the Masseria from the distance towering over the olive groves is amazing. It truly is a beautiful, majestic building. The family that owns it also loves gardening as is evident from the hundreds of flowering trees & bushes, and beautiful cacti in pots that surround the hotel area.

After being shown to our room, however, we were quite disappointed. We were in room 21, at the back of the hotel, not in the main building. The interior has been re-furbished to what I guess would be a more “modern” style, however it would have been much better if they had kept to the style of the original building. The wicker furniture and plastic flowers in the room made it look as though it had been furnished by an 80-year old woman and a college student with no budget. The bathroom itself was large, but with such a tiny tub (one of those half-sized tubs) that although we are not big people, the shower curtain would stick to our bodies whenever we turned around in the shower. It was such an unexpected disappointment to us after we’d been wowed by the sight of the Masseria exterior and tower that we considered staying only one night instead of the two we’d originally booked. To make ourselves feel better, we decided to change into change into our swim suits and check out the pool.

Luckily, the pool absolutely made up for it. The saltwater pool is beautifully designed and the poolside area is well thought-out with tasteful furnishings and minimal decor that lets the natural beauty of the area speak for itself. The pool’s slightly elevated position means you can see the ocean from it even though it is miles away, and there is a cooling breeze no matter what time of day you’re out there. The outdoor shower made in moss-green mosaic tile fits in so well with the surrounding area of olive trees that you’d hardly notice it there until someone uses it. The best part is that since it’s a salt water pool, there’s no chlorine smell poolside or in your suit & hair.

They have a dining hall which features one set menu every night, I suppose dependent on what they get at the local markets. The dinner menu is given to guests at breakfast so you can see what’s on offer and decide if you’d like to eat there or make arrangements to eat somewhere else. The menu on our first night there was local seafood, and as my husband and I both love seafood, we decided to eat there. It was absolutely delicious and was more than worth the €25/pp charge. However I understand that the food can be a little hit-and-miss there as I decided to skip dinner on the 2nd night and my husband reported back that the food was decidedly below average on that night (they had had a lamb main, which he said could’ve been better described as mutton).

Also on the restaurant, the wait staff in general were very nice and accommodating, however the head waiter (whom I think is part of the family who owns the Masseria, as he is in the brochure photos with them) is a bit of a moody guy. The 1st morning we awoke there was the first time in a week that my husband and I hadn’t had to get up at 7.30am to go on a long bike ride to our next destination, so we decided to sleep in a little bit. We got to the breakfast at 9.30am and lucky for us it was still on, albeit with even more limited offerings than usual at that point. Half an hour later, I went back for more of the delicious home-made marmalade that they make on-site, but it had been cleared away from the buffet table. I politely asked the kindly waitress for more and she smiled, nodded, and went into the kitchen to get it. 5 seconds later, the head waiter strides out and confronts me and a stern look and with a finger tapping at his watch says “Signorina, no more! Finito!” Then he proceeds to take away what little was left on the table. A young family with a small child came to breakfast even later than us and could only get a few white rolls and some coffee.

The rest of the family that owns & runs the place seem like very nice, kind people though. And on the 2nd morning, when mustachio-ed moody guy was noticeably absent from the breakfast buffet, the service from the 2 junior wait staff was a lot more relaxed, friendly, and flexible than when we was around.

We stayed at the poolside the entire 2nd day of our stay there – partly because we needed the rest after all the cycling & couldn’t bear to stay in our room, but mostly because it really is the most beautiful part of the the beautiful grounds of this Masseria.

8.0 Excellent Place
We stayed 2 nights. It is a great place if you would like to visit places such as Alberbello, Locorotondo or Ostuni. The masseria is in a tiny village surounded by olive trees. We had a very spacious room and a huge terrace. The pool is fantastic
